Kckn Chkn

Another weekend away filled with gluten free food adventures – this time due to a dance competition on the NSW Central Coast. On our way home we stopped at Kckn Chkn in Gosford, and it was definitely the food highlight of our trip!

We girls both had the gluten free chicken tenders and fries, and they were so good! The chicken had a nice, light crumb, with spices to give it a great flavour, and the coating actually had a nice colour to it, not white like some gluten free coatings do.

All the sauces and most of the drinks are gluten free, and to be honest, after speaking to the staff, there wasn’t much on the menu that we had to avoid (mostly the burgers and waffle fries).

They have gluten free fries to replace the waffle fries that come with the meals, and they fry them in a separate fryer – kept specifically for gluten free items!

The owner personally came over to check our order before it was sent to the kitchen to be cooked, as we’d ordered a combination of gluten and gluten free items, so she wanted to confirm exactly what was what.

She also personally delivered the gluten free foods to the table first, in a sealed bag, again confirming that the items were gluten free, and cooked separately.

She then delivered the gluten items, and sat them on the opposite side of the table.

As always with a shared gluten / gluten free facility, the risk of cross contamination is there, but we were made to feel so comfortable and the staff were so confident in their knowledge, that I felt the risk was very low.

Would return over and over again.

Hi! I’m Jo. Wife to a kiwi, mum to teenagers.

When that diagnosis first comes, it can feel overwhelming and life changing. Suddenly, life as you know it has changed. Spontaneity is replaced by meticulous planning. Take away dinners are swapped for home cooked meals. Familiar brands are substituted with the unknown.

But it doesn’t have to mean the end of joy. Good food, party invites, and family adventures can still be a big part of your life. It just takes a little extra planning, a little support, and a little inspiration!
