Eating Out: Restaurant 317

Restaurant 317
317 Church St, Parramatta, NSW.
The light rail passes right by the front door, or parking can be found 2 minutes walk away, in the Eat St carpark.

There really is nothing like the confidence that comes with eating out at a restaurant that is coeliac safe. Sitting down without a worry in the world that there will be cross contamination, or that you’ll be handed the wrong meal, just brings so much joy to a night out.

Even though we have eaten here more times than I can count, and the wait staff are familiar with us, every single time, they run through the same routine.

“Who here is eating gluten free tonight?”

“Gluten and gluten free dishes are prepared in separate kitchens.”

“Gluten free meals come out on blue dishes, or with blue papers, meals with gluten come out on red (pink) dishes, with red papers.”

“If you receive a dish on red (which you won’t), don’t accept it, don’t touch it, think of red as danger.” Always said with a smile and a laugh.

The knowledge and confidence of the staff is just so reassuring, and they bend over backwards to make sure you’re always comfortable, and having an enjoyable experience.

When we first started going to 317, the boys used to eat gluten, and us girls gluten free, but we quickly realised that the food was so good, and the portions so generous, that we wanted to share and try everything, so we now all eat gluten free, and share both dinner and dessert.

And last night was no exception.

Here is what we ordered:

Innocent Passion Mocktail for me, our girl had a peach iced tea, and the boys shared a jug of coke.

Garlic bread
Chicken strips & chips (from the kids menu)
Salt & pepper squid (entree, delivered with the mains so we could all share)
Potato chips (on the side, again delivered with the mains)
BBQ chicken pizza
Hawaiian pizza

Chocolate lava mud cake
Nutella pizza

If you haven’t been to Restaurant 317 before, it really is a must visit! If you’re thinking of visiting on a weekend, make sure you book a table in advance – it books up really quickly!

Hi! I’m Jo. Wife to a kiwi, mum to teenagers.

When that diagnosis first comes, it can feel overwhelming and life changing. Suddenly, life as you know it has changed. Spontaneity is replaced by meticulous planning. Take away dinners are swapped for home cooked meals. Familiar brands are substituted with the unknown.

But it doesn’t have to mean the end of joy. Good food, party invites, and family adventures can still be a big part of your life. It just takes a little extra planning, a little support, and a little inspiration!
